Finally we are getting a decent spell of sunny weather and it’s good to be able to get out and enjoy the outdoors. What a fabulous day the Brackenridge Picnic was on Sunday 18th March and the feedback I have received has been all positive. I was really very sorry to miss it but had to go to Sydney on a family matter at short notice and as a result missed out on all the fun everyone who attended had. Congratulations to the team who organised such a brilliant day.
This week I will be finalising membership of the Outcomes Assessment group and advising the members of their appointment. We will be holding our first meeting in April and its going to be good looking at outcomes and confirming how much involvement the people we support are having with family, their community and in reaching goals that they have set. As part of the Outcome Assessment groups work we will also review the quality of meals and nutrition we are serving which I am sure will be of a good standard.
I recently attended the NZDSN National Conference in Wellington that had the theme “Light the Fire for Action on Inclusion” and a session I really enjoyed called a Tasting Tour of Appreciative Inquiry facilitated by Marese McGee CEO of the Community Living Trust based in Hamilton asked the question of us all in that do we know our own Happy Place. What things do you most value about yourself, the nature of your work and the organisation you work for?
In her session Marese introduced us to a quote from Ann Frank which I found to be very poignant and I will share it with you....
“Everyone has inside themselves a piece of good news. The good news is that you really don’t know how great you can be, how much you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is”
I hope you take some time to reflect on this Ann Frank quote sadly too many people go through life not knowing what their potential is and miss out on living what really could have been an exceptional life.
Noho ora mai
Peter
